My family and myself

Sumio, who only spent a relatively small part of his ASU time as a 7*M postdoc, has been back in Japan for many years, where he has continued his pioneering work in microscopy at the very highest resolutions. He has worked on surface microscopy, catalysts, and other advanced materials and has made videos of reactions in progress. More recently he discovered "carbon nanotubes," which are now known worldwide. He is a Research Fellow managing and doing research at the Fundamental Research Labs, NEC Corp., Tsukuba. He is married to Nobuko and says his children are becoming independent young adults. He is looking for partners (duets or trios) for playing classical flute music.
