Dave is Professor at Johns Hopkins University, where he has been for many years and where he is the head of an active and productive research group in electron microscopy. Those of you who work in electron microscopy will be well familiar with the interesting research and good students issuing from his lab. He won the 1983 MSA Award, “which (he kindly stated) presumably resulted from the work we did at ASU.” He is a past Associate Editor of the American Mineralogist and is currently the President of the Mineralogical Society of America. He recently spent a sabbatical leave doing electron microscopy in Sweden.
